Karina’s Laser Hair Removal Journey: Part 1
Follow along with this blog series as Karina shares her experience with The Laser Clinic.
I really had no idea what to expect at my first Laser Clinic appointment. I’d been curious about laser hair removal for quite a while. I struggle with chronic pain and illness, and keeping up with shaving the areas of my body that I personally prefer smooth was becoming quite a challenge.
The lobby of the clinic was relaxing and welcoming, and I didn’t wait long at all before Dr. Crowder was ready for me. We had a private consultation during which I became very informed about how laser hair removal works. I learned that I was an excellent candidate because of my fair skin and dark body hair, but I’d need several sessions to achieve the results I wanted. She said that most clients get their desired results after about 6 treatments, and then they’re done! I felt very respected, and Dr. Crowder answered all my questions thoroughly. I quickly became very comfortable with her. She told me she’s also a gynecologist, so any embarrassment I felt about wanting my bikini region lasered quickly dissipated. We agreed to start on my underarms so I could see how the actual process felt.
The procedure room was super clean and had a private bathroom for clients. Dr. Crowder gave me a stress toy to squeeze and told me we could stop or take a break any time I wanted. The actual laser felt like a very fast, hot zap. It was over almost before my nerve endings had a chance to react, and then it was on to the next spot. I feel like tattoos hurt worse, and the laser is so quick. Both my underarms were done within five minutes.
My skin was tingly but that faded within minutes. My bikini area actually hurt less than my underarms, and that was over before I knew it too. There was a burning smell from the laser destroying the hair follicle. Dr. Crowder gave me some soothing aloe gel to apply to the lasered areas, and made sure to explain aftercare once I’d gotten dressed again.
